Rich, chocolate cake awakens the senses as James Rauh of the The WestBean opens a fresh bag of their house coffee, Colombia Sol Bohemio, and encourages me to take in the aroma of the freshly roasted whole coffee beans.

Rauh prepared a cup for us to taste on the Kalita Wave, their in-house pourover method. I was surprised by the fuller body of the Colombia, which usually is lighter bodied like a superb tea. The chocolate lingers on the palate softening into toasted walnut with a clean caramel finish.

This amazingly full-bodied Colombian coffee was shipped to subscribers of the SD Coffee Club earlier this month, but don't fret. Right now, coffee enthusiasts can enjoy it at WestBean's downtown Cafe at 240 Broadway. Or just order via their online store and get it delivered.

The Colombia Sol Bohemio was a natural choice for their house coffee given its traditional chocolate, walnut and caramel tasting notes, says Rauh. It is a crowd pleaser.

While in Cafe, we tried their featured specialty drink--Kryptonite--cold brew coffee infused with fresh mint topped off with a splash of cream all over ice. Light and refreshing for the dog days of summer.
