Last November Bird Rock Coffee Roasters moved their production facility from their Bird Rock flagship location to 1270 Morena Blvd. The spacious state-of-the-art facility boasts a gleaming 35 kilo Loring and plenty of space for green coffee storage. Here is where cupping, roasting and packaging take place, the final steps of a long supply chain from farm to cup.

Morena Blvd, which connects Linda Vista to Bay Park, is primarily known for its warehouses and industrial character, but recent additions show a movement to diversify the area with quality food and beverage. Near the roastery you can find great food establishments such as Waters Fine Foods and Catering and Stehly Farms Market

Last month Bird Rock Coffee Roasters opened the Morena Coffee Bar, their third retail location. This is a wonderful destination to shop for coffee beans due to the existing and ever-changing offering of single origins and blends. Bird Rock is a seasonal roaster, meaning that their offerings reflect prime harvest throughout the year. Direct trade relationships allow this roaster to obtain unique lots and coveted varietals of the utmost quality.

The Morena Coffee Bar offers a full espresso menu, pour-overs, cold-brew and tea. Bird Rock's signature seasonal espresso blend, Monkey Bite, is pulled using a classic La Marzocco Linea in a fun turquoise finish. Coffee Bar Manager, Adam Fredrickson (pictured above) and Head Barista, Ryan Sullivan (pictured below) are the guys to know, they are extremely talented baristas and love sharing their vast coffee knowledge.

The pour over menu is frequently rotated to features two origins at a time; options here showcase the most unique and balanced roasts. Extraction is conducted via Seraphim, the latest automated pour-over technology coming out of Curtis. Pour-overs are guaranteed to be consistent, complex and full of personality. Past offerings include the La Esmeralda Geisha Lino Lot, a unique sun-dried natural which secured the company a spot in the Good Food Award Finalists

For the last year this facility has served as an education center. Owner Chuck Patton has hosted lectures for local college students interested in sustainable sourcing and small business development. Also taking place in this facility are cupping and sample tastings for Bird Rock wholesale accounts. In the near future, the company seeks to provide barista classes and tastings for the public.
